Christian Pfeiffer
Competence Center

Where Efficient processes are created.

At the Christian Pfeiffer Competence Center we determine all relevant material properties for the individual solution of your plant. Our goal: to ensure the highest product quality with efficient energy utilization.

The Competence Center consists of a pilot plant and a laboratory where your material is fully analyzed by our experts, because every material is different and requires a plant that is perfectly adapted to its properties. Test-, grinding, separation, pelletizing and laboratory analyses provide us with the answers as to how the most efficient plant must be designed in each case.

Step 1 - Request analysis
Send us your sample material
Step 2 - receive a report
with detailed product analysis
Step 3 - Plan with us
your energy efficient plant
  • "When small alterations make a big difference in energy efficiency, we need to understand the importance of every detail in the process."

material tests

All tests serve to develop the most efficient process individually adapted to your product and to check the technical feasibility. Achieve the lowest energy consumption with the highest quality standards.

Our tests:

Grinding

  • To determine the specific grinding energy in kWh/t of a material
  • For the production of representative product samples

Separation

  • Testing the separation efficiency of different materials and particle size distributions

Pelletizing

  • Recipe, binder and particle size determination

laboratory analyses

Grindability: What dimensions must the grinding plant have?

The grindability analysis provides information about the size of a plant and is the basis of our work. It helps us to rate the comminution behaviour of rocks and minerals. Thereby we apply generally accepted procedures:

- Bond

- Zeisel

What does the particle size distribution say about the product quality?

The particle size distribution is the determination of the percentage by mass of the different particle size fractions. With this analysis the interaction of mill and separator as an overall system can be evaluated and allow conclusions about about the efficiency. It is the basis for the design and the definition of dimensions of the grinding plant.

Applied tests:

- Laser diffraction with Sympatec Helos

- Sieve analysis: By air sieving and sieve tower test

What is the material density?

The material density in kg/m 3 can be can be subdivided according to the standard into pure density and bulk density. The bulk density provides information about the required transport equipment, such as bucket elevators, conveyor belts or air slides.

Applied tests:

- Helium pycnometer

- Liquid pycnometer

How can ideal product quality be achieved?

To achieve ideal product quality, the interaction of mill and separator must be evaluated. The specific surface of the material is one of the most important criteria for the overall system, along with the particle size distribution.

If a higher product fineness is to be achieved while maintaining the same production output, it is helpful to check the size of the separator.

Applied tests:

- specific surface area according to Blaine

Material moisture: Is it necessary to pre-heat the feed material?

The moisture content of a material indicates whether a drying plant or a drying chamber is useful. This is because the mill can compensate for up to 3 % moisture. If the value is higher, a drying plant or chamber is advisable.

  • "The optimum material temperature ensures an ideal product flow. The more homogeneously the material can flow, the less energy is required."

A story of efficiency

Efficiency in grinding is our heritage and our future.
Since 1925.

Making grinding processes as efficient as possible is a science in itself – one to which we dedicate our entire expertise and spirit of innovation. From the invention of the first MONOBLOC diaphragm to the technical fine-tuning of the separator QDK. How we became what we are today.
